Unlock what talk therapy can’t reach.

You might be feeling like you’ve tried everything-talk therapy, journaling, mindfulness-but the anxiety, overwhelm, and emotional reactivity still lingers under the surface

Maybe you’re exhausted from the constant internal pressure to “get it right,” pushed by a harsh inner critic that never seems satisfied.

You find yourself snapping at loved ones, then feeling guilty and confused about why your reactions feel so big. It’s as if there is a deeper layer of emotion or pain your can’t quite access with words-something stuck in your body, always humming just beneath the surface.

You may look like you have it all together on the outside, but on the inside, you’re tired of the tension, the looping thoughts, the self-doubt and worry.

Brainspotting is for those moment-when talking about it isn’t enough and you’re ready to reach what’s been buried, blocked and ignored.

Brain Talk:

When you are engaging in talk therapy you are using the neocortex (the thinking part of your brain) BUT this is not where trauma and emotions are stored.

In order to do the deeper work of healing, we need to activate the subcortical (the feeling part of your brain) where we can get at the root of your emotional pain.

This allows for a more direct connection to the unresolved emotional experiences so that profound healing and change can happen on a deep neurological level.

But what is a Brainspot?

A brainspot is not a specific spot in your brain. It is the brain’s response to focused activation along with a designated eye position. This means that when we connect the emotional response with a particular eye position, we are activating a network in the brain. Here we will also see a somatic (or body) response.

“What’s in the body is in the brain and what’s in the brain is in the body.”

~David Grand

I am a firm believer that the brain and body can not be separated in therapy. We need to access both of them to see the changes that we truly desire.

Being able to work on emotional wounds can help decrease physical symptoms that we may have such as:

  • Pain- joint pain

  • Headaches

  • Stomach/digestive issues

Similarly, working on physical symptoms will help relieve emotional concerns such as:

  • Anxiety

  • Shame

  • Stress

  • Perfectionism

  • People-pleasing

Brainspotting facilitates deeper healing which allows you to be more aligned with the way you want to live your life.

HOW IT WORKS

Accessing the brain’s natural ability to heal.

There is a saying in Brainspotting that goes “Where you look affects how you feel.” This is the essence of this healing modality.

Brainspotting is a powerful, brain-body therapy designed to help you process and release the emotional and physical effects of trauma, stress and overwhelm. It works by locating “brainspots” aka specific eye positions that correlate with the storage of unprocessed emotional experiences in the brain and body.

When your eyes rest on a brainspot, your nervous system accesses the deeper, subcortical parts of the brain where trauma, emotional pain, and earlier memories are held-often outside of your conscious awareness.

In a session, you’ll be gently guided to notice what’s coming up for you-emotionally, physically, or mentally-as we find the eye position that seems to hold that feeling or experince. This process is often sublte but powerful. As you conitinue to focus on that spot, your brain will begin to do what it knows how to do to process the memory. As you trust your brains innate ability to do this work, you will begin to notice the shifts in your body.

Brainspotting bypasses the thinking brain and taps into the deeper areas that are responsible for survival, emotional regulations and memory storage. This makes it especially effective for people who feel stuck, overwhelmed and burnt out.

What sets Brainspotting apart is how deeply it honors your nervous system. You remain in control- going at a pace that is good for you. Creating this kind of calm, attuned spaces is how healing unfolds.

Frequently asked questions about

Brainspotting Therapy:

  • I have used this modality in both settings. My training was all virtual and as I experienced it that way, I can confidently say that it is helpful virtually. Many of my in person clients have found it extremely beneficial as well.

  • No. David Grand was trained as an EMDR therapist by Francine Shapiro (founder of EMDR). However, in his practice he noticed something different (brainspots) and this is where he began to research and develop this method. Both of these modalities work to heal at a very deep level. There are some differences in the set up and structure. We can talk more about both of these options.

  • Brainspotting Can help with:

    • Anxiety & Stress

    • Trauma like childhood abuse or neglect

    • Physical Issues like chronic pain

    • Grief & Loss

    • Religious or Attachment Trauma

    • Anger & Impulse Control Issues

  • Not necessarily. One of the strengths of Brainspotting is that it does not require you to talk in detail about your experiences. Your brain knows what it needs to be processed and often healing happens without words.

  • If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like talk therapy has not helped, Brainspotting may be a good fit. It is especially helpful for trauma, anxiety, grief, perfectionism and chronic stress that lives in the body.
